An Atlantic City man dubbed as one the the county's most wanted fugitives was captured last week in a rural Virginia area.

Edward Poley, 32, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force Dectectives.

Poley has been listed as "wanted" by Atlantic County since Apr. 2008 on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, burglary, forgery, and bail jumping, according to Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles.

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the U.S. Marshal Task Force, was the lead detective on the case.

The extensive investigation by Detective Herbert and the Marshal Service Task Force took place in several states, according to Balles.

“Detective Herbert has worked tirelessly on this case to assure the arrest of this violent subject,” said Balles. “Our office will continue to actively participate in the U.S. Marshal Service Task Force and pool our resources in a concerted effort with all law enforcement to continue to remove as many dangerous fugitives from the streets as possible.” Belles added.

Poley is being held without bail in Virginia awaiting extradition to New Jersey. U.S. Marshal for New Jersey James Plousis stated,

“This is a great example of seamless law enforcement cooperation in New Jersey. This arrest shows that we are unified in going after the worst of the worst to make this country a safer place for everyone.”
