The Indiana Surety Bail Agents Association provides free C.E.

The Indiana Surety Bail Agents Association provides free continuing education classes as part of its membership benefits and with license renewal fast approaching agents are pressing to obtain their six hours of required CE credits.

There being no recent changes to the Indiana Code impacting bail bonds it was important to come up with a class that would hold the interest of licensed bail and recovery agents. Lee Sexton is a past president of ISBAA and owner of America Bonding. Lee volunteered to host the Ft. Wayne class. He promised a great class and he didn't disappoint. Lee recruited a number of interesting speakers to ensure bail agents would depart the class having learned something new. As an approved instructor, I was asked to conduct the class in which I only had to teach for one of the six hours.

The list of speakers included newly elected Allen County Sheriff Ken Frees who spoke about the changes he's made since taking office and some of the challenges he is still addressing i.e. 15000 unserved warrants and an overcrowded jail.

The guest list also included retired judge and attorney proficient in bail law, Dane Tubergen. Mr. Tubergen fielded a number of questions about liability surrounding apprehensions and deportation. Rounding out the day were speakers on internet advertising, small business tax liabilities and the function of the Superior Court Clerk.

All in all bail agents were left wanting more. That's a rare occurrence for any CE class. Thanks to Lee Sexton, we had a class with an atmosphere more akin to an association meeting than a class room.
